A lot of his enemy of imperialistic perspectives could have grown in adolescence, when he was under the standard of Russians the Ukraine. His dad Apollo Korzeniowski was captured for dubious association in progressive exercises (online-writing). Apollo invested a lot of energy composing plays and social parodies. Despite the fact that his works were not notable, they gave Joseph an early gratefulness for writing. Apollo passed on of tuberculosis in 1869; four years a similar infection asserted his significant other, Conradââ¬â¢s mother. Joseph, just 11, was sent to live with his uncle in Switzerland (online-writing). He went to class for a couple of years before persuading his uncle to release him to the ocean in the mid 1870ââ¬â¢s. In that decade he made three outings toward the West Indies as an understudy on a French shipper transport. He proceeded with his profession for a long time on British boats, gradually ascending in rank from basic sailor to initially mate. By 1886 Conrad held the order of his own boat, Otago. Heart of Darkness depends on his multi month venture through the Congo in 1890 (Liukkonen). Long stretches of work adrift gave him back issues from which he never recouped, and a one of a kind, assuming terrible, perspective on the world. In a 1897 letter he clarified his view: ââ¬Å"What makes humanity terrible isn't that they are casualties of nature, it is that they are aware of it. Interview with a Wharton Student and Forte MBALauncher
Wharton student Ashley Wells This interview is the latest in an Accepted.com blog series featuringà interviews with current MBA students, offering readers a behind-the-scenes look atà top MBA programs. And now for a chat with Ashley Wells, a first-year student at Wharton. Accepted: Wed like to get to know you! Where are you from? Where and what did you study as an undergrad? What was your most recent pre-MBA job? Ashley: I have spent the last eight years living in Washington, DC, first to pursue my undergraduate degree in Political Science at The George Washington University and staying after undergrad to work in Deloitte Consultingââ¬â¢s Federal Practice. Although I grew up in Tampa, Florida and live for sunshine and the beach, I had an inherent love of government and politics which brought me to DC. Ultimately, this passion has transitioned into a broader realization that I love making an impact on people and communities around me, and I find that business can present profound solutions to social problems in addition to government. In my career, I had some really interesting experiences learning about and trying to solve some of our countryââ¬â¢s challenges alongside my clients. Working on issues such as reducing military suicides, tracking and protecting Department of Homeland Security personnel in the Middle East, and providing nutritious food to the one in five children who suffer from hunger in the United States were just a few of the challenges that brought me to work every day. I also had the opportunity to work in Deloitteââ¬â¢s Hong Kong practice, which is a very new joint venture between Deloitte US and Hong Kong. This ââ¬Å"start-upâ⬠environment within the framework of a massive company enabled me to see the excitements and challenges that are innate to forming a companyââ¬â¢s market presence from the ground-up. Accepted: Can you tell us about Fortes MBALaunch program? How did you decide to join the program and what did you gain for the experience? Ashley: I was lucky to be an inaugural member of Forteââ¬â¢s MBALaunch program in Washington, DC in 2013! Forte has an incredible reputation within the business and MBA communities as a solid support network for women. Until this point, Forte focused on women currently pursuing MBAs and post-MBA women. I was really thrilled to see them offer a program for pre-MBA women to bring their programming full loop. Like anything, the Forte MBALaunch program is what you make of it. I had an excellent relationship with my assigned Forte advisor who reviewed my essays, met with me monthly, and offered me encouragement throughout the process. I met with my assigned Forte small group over brunches and essay review sessions to offer one another feedback and support. At the end of our journey, many of us had gotten into top schools and we were beside one another (over mimosas!) to celebrate what weââ¬â¢d been through together. I took advantage of the Forte sessions on topics such as resume and interview preparation, which I believe gave me valuable insights that are not available from open-source information. Finally, I got a great network of friends from this and my investment in the program has already paid for itself in leaps and bounds. Two friends from the program actually connected the nonprofit I was on the board of to their companies, who then sponsored multiple major events for the nonprof it. All of the above benefits from the program far surpassed what I anticipated, and I look forward to my network continuing to grow from it moving forward. Accepted: What are some of your most rewarding extracurricular activities (both before entering Wharton and current activities)? How have those activities helped shape your career? Ashley: Two activities were core to my development and truly my identity prior to coming to Wharton. First was joining the board as a Vice President of United Women in Business (UWIB), a start-up nonprofit that provides professional development, networking, and community service opportunities to young female professionals. As a nonprofit entrepreneur, I teamed with fellow 20-something women to build UWIB, drive its overall programming strategy in three cities, and planned and executed all professional development events for DC women. This experience was aligned to my passion of impacting my community and taught me how much I enjoy building an organization, giving me an interest in start-ups that I am exploring in Business School. Furthermore, this experience positioned me well for my Wharton extracurricular activity leadership roles in Wharton Women in Business, and in Ashokaââ¬â¢s Catapult program where I advise six high school entrepreneurs starting a business. Second, I actively challenged myself to broaden my horizons through travel. I traveled to 37 countries over six years, including studying in Madrid, Spain, backpacking Latin America for two months, working in Hong Kong this past summer, and religiously taking off work for 2-3 weeks each May to travel to a new region. These experiences reinforced my desire to live and work abroad throughout my career, and gave me a deeper sense of empathy, wonder, cultural differences, and appreciation for kindness that I believe will forever shape my career and my life. Accepted: What is your favorite thing about Wharton so far? Is there anything youd change about the program? Ashley: My favorite thing about Wharton thus far is the energy. Walking into Huntsman Hall each day is just a beautiful commotion of ideas, priorities, learning, and conversations. People are eager to connect and support one another, hungry to learn and push their expectations of themselves, and excited to carve their niche in the world. The people here inspire me each day to be better and think bigger, and the environment is molding me to see the world more analytically and creatively. You just canââ¬â¢t get this experience taking business classes on Coursera. One thing I would change is just making some of the ââ¬Å"summer prepâ⬠content available earlier. Many schools have ââ¬Å"math campâ⬠style tutorials, accounting prep sessions, etc. during the summer, but itââ¬â¢s honestly never too early to start learning some of that content! Had I had a bit more time to prepare in advance, I think I might have felt a bit better about the extremely quant heavy curriculum. So, for those of you out there without calculus experience like me, I highly recommend learning from my mistakes and prepping for that now! Accepted: How is Wharton helping you to secure your future internship? Ashley: Wharton is extremely hands-on with the recruiting process. I usually donââ¬â¢t like having my hand held as a highly independent person, but with Career Services, you are paying for these services and you should absolutely take advantage of them. Career Services preps you for everything from going from ââ¬Å"good to greatâ⬠on behavioral interviews, to how to nail a case, to industry-specific career overviews, to in-depth resume reviews, to individual sessions one-on-one to help you plot your path to getting your dream job. What I really like about Wharton Career Services and Wharton overall is that there is an enhanced focus on evaluating your interests holistically. Important parts of your personality and life are analyzed in addition to your career goals. There is an emphasis on thinking critically about careers where you can thrive in multiple dimensions of your life. They are also just an awesome reassuring presence to ascertain that every first yearââ¬â¢s worst nightmare ââ¬â not getting an internship or job! ââ¬â is unrealistic because, as they always say, ââ¬Å"Everyone gets a job. Everyone!â⬠Accepted: Can you share your top 3 MBA admissions tips with our readers? Ashley: â⬠¢ à Submit your applications when youââ¬â¢re ready. I submitted my applications saying to myself ââ¬Å"They may not like me, but I gave 100%. There isnââ¬â¢t a single word I would change.â⬠You should feel like you did absolutely everything you could on your application, and then you can mentally move on from it to more important things like interview prep and evaluating school choices. â⬠¢ à But if possible, apply round one. Everyone has a different strategy for this, but from my perspective, it was so much easier to find out in December, make a decision by January, and then start planning an exciting and fulfilling summer pre-MBA. I donââ¬â¢t think I could have handled the prolonged anxiety of applying from August-March, but if you do go through multiple rounds of applications, just give yourself iterative breaks and rewards to sustain your energy. â⬠¢ à Only apply to schools you really want to go to. I look back on one school specifically that I applied to, and it was truly a waste of my time. Had I been honest with myself, I would have realized that I would have been miserable there. No matter what school ratings say or how good the schoolââ¬â¢s reputation is, if you donââ¬â¢t get an inspiring vibe when youââ¬â¢re visiting and engaging with students there, itââ¬â¢s just not worth it. Instead, focus more attention on the schools you can envision being elated by when you hear the news that you got in. For one-on-one guidance on your b-school application, please see our MBA Application Packages.à Thank you Ashley for sharing your story with us ââ¬â we wish you loads of luck! Fake US Soldiers Robbing Women Online
The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) warns that women in the U.S. and around the world are being scammed by persons pretending to be U.S. soldiers deployed in war zones. CID warns that these fake soldiers promises of love and devotion onlyà ââ¬Å"end up breaking hearts and bank accounts.â⬠According to CID, the pretend heroes sink so low as to be using the names, ranks and even pictures of actual U.S. soldiers - some killed in action -- to target women 30 to 55 years old on social media and dating web sites. We cannot stress enough that people need to stop sending money to persons they meet on the internet and claim to be in the U.S. military, said Chris Grey, Army CIDs spokesman in a press release. It is heartbreaking to hear these stories over and again of people who have sent thousands of dollars to someone they have never met and sometimes have never even spoken to on the phone. According to Grey, the scams typically employ clever, romantically worded requests for money to help the fake ââ¬Å"deployed soldierâ⬠buy special laptop computers, international telephones, military leave applications, and transportation fees needed to keep the budding ââ¬Å"relationshipâ⬠going. Weve even seen instances where the perpetrators are asking the victims for money to purchase leave papers from the Army, help pay for medical expenses from combat wounds received, or help pay for their flight home so they can leave the war zone, said Grey. Victims who get worried and ask to actually talk to the fake soldiers are typically told the Army does not allow them to make phone calls or that they need money to help keep the Army internet running. Another common thread, according to Grey is for the soldier to claim to be a widower raising a child or children on their own. These perpetrators, often from other countries, most notably from West African countries are good at what they do and quite familiar with American culture, but the claims about the Army and its regulations are ridiculous, said Grey. Report Them All forms of financial fraud, which is exactly what these fake, love for money soldiers are trying to pull, can now be reported through the StopFraud.gov website Military Leave is Always Earned, Never Bought No branch of the U.S. military charges service members money for permission to take leave. Leave is earned, not purchased. As the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command recommends: Never Send Money - Be extremely suspicious if you are asked for money for transportation costs, communication fees or marriage processing and medical fees. In addition, be very suspicious if the person you are corresponding with wants you to mail anything to an African country. Where to Turn Them In If you suspect or know you have been victimized by a fake soldier scammer, you can report the incident to the FBIs Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). Out of a concern for the safety and privacy of their servicemembers, all branches of the U.S. military have removed their web-based, online personnel locator services. Scams Targeting Veterans, Military Personnel, and Retirees In another despicable outgrowth of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the IRS warns of email phishing scams targeting veterans, current military personnel, and retirees receiving VA disability benefits. The emails falsely claim that individuals currently receiving disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) may be eligible to obtain additional funds from the IRS. The emails come from a bogus outfit calling itself Defense Finance and Accounting Services, and while the email address ends with a ââ¬Å".milâ⬠domain, it is not a legitimate government military email address. The email promises the victims that by sending copies of their VA award letters, income tax returns, 1099-Rs, Retiree Account Statements, and DD-214s to a colonel at an address in Florida, they can receive additional money from the IRS. Of course, as the IRS points out, they cannot and will not. In fact, by giving the non-existent ââ¬Å"colonelâ⬠the personal financial information shown on the requested documents, the victims could face financial disaster. To avoid falling victim to this or similar scams, the IRS reminders taxpayers to watch out for the following: Fictitious claims for refunds or rebates based on false statements of entitlement to tax creditsEmails from unfamiliar senders asking for personal informationInternet solicitation that direct individuals to toll-free numbers and then solicit Social Security numbers or other personal information The IRS never contacts taxpayers by email. The IRS initiates most contacts with taxpayers through regular mail delivered by the United States Postal Service.

Similarities and Differences between Confucianism in China...
Confucianism originated in China by Confucius around the year 400 B.C.E. (faithresource.comâ⬠¦). Hinduism was brought to India by the Aryans around the year 1500 B.C.E. (janesvilleparker.orgâ⬠¦). Although these two belief systems originated at different times they still share many similarities as well as many differences. Confucianism and Hinduism are two religions that shared many similarities. Such similarities are the idea that both were used as an outline for the way one should live his/her life, they were used to teach strength in oneââ¬â¢s relationships, they both enforced political/governmental order, and each taught key concepts/values that would lead an individual down a path of peace. On the other hand, these two religionsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Confucius thought that a ruler who had to resort to force had already failed as a ruler -- Your job is to govern, not to kill (friesian.comâ⬠¦). Hinduism also taught peace. An example is that many Hindus were strict vegetarians, and did not eat any sort of meat. Hindus reject violence and believe that animals, birds and all sorts of living things become your friend when you cease to kill and eat them (Gellman, Hartman, 96). **As much as these two belief systems have in common, they do have their differences. For example, Confucianism is not a religion, while Hinduism is one of the most prominent religions in the world with over a billion followers. Hinduism is also the third largest religion in the world, and has always been one of the largest religions since its creation in the 11th century B.C.E. (paths2peace.orgâ⬠¦). Hinduism has a god for most things such as a god of love, war, peace, rain and so on. How ever, Hindus do not pray to all of these gods. There are gods and goddesses that are more important than others, and these are the ones many Hindus focus on. In Confucianism, however, there are no deities (gods and goddesses). Confucius was not a very spiritual man, although very philosophical (globaled.orgâ⬠¦). Managers Organisational Decisions
Question: Discuss about the significant trends in both Demand and Supply in the Copper Industry that have Influenced the price of Copper since September 2011. What are the Implications of these trends for Managerial Decision making in the Copper Industry? Answer: Introduction A relation between the decision of the managers of every organisation and the economic trend of the country in which it operates has been observed. The managers are highly dependent upon the economic trend while making organisational decisions. Discussion The fluctuation in the price level of the copper since 2011 has been observed due to the change in the demand and supply of copper in the industry. As per the law of demand, the fall in the demand caused the price level of copper to increase (Refer to appendix). In order to bring the market at equilibrium, the managers of the copper industry needs to cut the level of supply so that there is no excess supply in the economy. After 2011, the price level of copper has been following a downward trend, which further infers that the demand for copper in the economy has been slowly decreasing. The fall in the demand has been an outcome of the slow market growth in China. Mrazova Neary, (2016) opined that the firms increase the supply level as the number of supplier increased since 2011. The price level of the product automatically thus fall other variables remaining ceteris paribus. Conclusion As the price of copper falls and the demand decreases, the managers of the copper industry tends to increase the production since profit making is their main motive. The managers will thus try to gain profit as much as possible without causing the demand to retract (Brennan, 2012). The managers employ more labourers in order to increase the production and enhance the productivity thereby gaining higher profit margin. References Brennan, P. F. (2012). Managerial Decision Making.
